When Is the Revolutionary Apple Intelligence Coming? And Is Your iPhone Ready? Read to Find Out!

With iOS 18 and macOS 15.0 Sequoia now out this week, many Apple users are asking, where’s Apple Intelligence? Announced at WWDC 2024, this new AI system is set to make devices smarter, more intuitive, and personalized.

But despite the software updates rolling out, the full suite of Apple Intelligence features hasn’t arrived yet, leaving many users eager to know when they’ll be able to access this groundbreaking technology.

Apple Intelligence is expected to change how users interact with their iPhones, iPads, and Macs. It will introduce tools like a smarter Siri, improved writing assistants, and advanced photo editing features, all while maintaining a strong focus on privacy. Integrated across familiar apps, it aims to enhance everyday tasks with more personalized and efficient support.

Key Features of Apple Intelligence

  1. Writing Tools: You’ll be able to easily rewrite, proofread, and summarize text across apps like Mail, Notes, and Pages, streamlining your writing process and making it more efficient.
  2. Photo Enhancements: The Clean Up tool will help you remove distracting background elements from photos effortlessly, while the Memories feature will allow you to create videos just by typing descriptions.
  3. AI Summaries and Smart Replies: AI will summarize long email threads, highlight urgent messages, and suggest quick replies in Mail and Messages, making communication smoother and more manageable.
  4. Advanced Siri: Siri will handle complex queries, keep track of context between requests, and let you switch seamlessly between voice and text input. You’ll also be able to ask detailed questions about device settings and functions.
  5. Notification Summaries: Notifications will be summarized and prioritized, allowing you to focus on the most important information without getting overwhelmed.
  6. Image Playground & Genmoji: You’ll be able to create custom images and personalized emojis using AI prompts, adding a creative touch to your messages and visuals.

When Will Apple Intelligence Be Available?

Let’s get right away to the most important question. When will the Apple Inteligence be available? It’s important to say, that Apple Intelligence is not part of the initial release of iOS 18iPadOS 18, or macOS 15.0 Sequoia. Instead, it will start rolling out with the iOS 18.1iPadOS 18.1, and macOS 15.1 updates in October 2024, initially supporting U.S. English. The rollout will gradually expand to more regions and languages, with localized English support in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the U.K. by December 2024.

More languages, including Chinese, French, Spanish, Japanese, and German, will be added in 2025.

Device Compatibility

Apple Intelligence is also gonna be available only on the latest devices:

  • iPhones: iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
  • iPads: iPad Pro (M1 and later), iPad Air (M1 and later).
  • Macs: MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro with M1 chips or newer.

Will Older Devices Support Apple Intelligence?

Unfortunately, older models without M1 or A17 Pro or higher processing power won’t support these features due to hardware limitations, and it’s unlikely Apple will add support for older devices in the future.

This is a common strategy for Apple, as they often reserve some of the most advanced features for their latest devices to take advantage of the newer hardware. If you’re using an older iPhone, iPad, or Mac, upgrading to a compatible device will be necessary to access Apple Intelligence, ensuring that these AI functions run smoothly and efficiently.

Region-Specific Availability

And there are some regional specifics:

  • EU and China: Apple Intelligence won’t be available initially in the EU or China due to regulatory concerns. EU users can expect access once privacy and competition guidelines are met. However, changing the Apple ID region to a supported country could enable access outside of these regions.
  • Other Regions: Users outside the EU and China, with supported devices and set to U.S. English, will receive Apple Intelligence as part of their device’s software update in October.

How to Get Apple Intelligence

To access Apple Intelligence, you need to:

  1. Update your devices to iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, or macOS Sequoia 15.1. For now, it’s available only through the Public Beta program, so be aware that it may come with bugs or issues.
  2. Set the device language and Siri to a supported language (starting with U.S. English).
  3. Join the Apple Intelligence Waitlist in Settings under “Apple Intelligence & Siri.”

Once you’re on the waitlist, Apple will notify you when Apple Intelligence is ready, and the necessary AI models will download automatically.

How to Access AI on Older Mac (macOS 12.0+)?

If you’re using a Mac running macOS 12.0 (Monterey) or later but your device doesn’t support Apple Intelligence, you can still access advanced AI features through third-party applications.

One such solution is Fello AI, a macOS app that brings a wide range of AI capabilities directly to your Mac. Fello AI integrates latest version of major language models like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and LLaMA, offering tools for writing assistance, content generation, coding help, and much more. It allows users to enjoy AI-driven features, even if their device isn’t eligible for Apple Intelligence.

Fello AI offers a flexible and easy-to-use Mac app for anyone looking to enhance productivity with AI without needing the latest macOS version or hardware. With features such as text generation, summarization, and brainstorming assistance, it provides a powerful alternative for those on older Macs, giving you a similar AI experience as Apple Intelligence, but with broader compatibility across devices.
