There’s a new AI image generator in town, and it’s called “Mystic.” Created by the team behind Freepik and Javi Lopez (founder of Magnific AI), Mystic is already making waves, even though it’s still in beta and only handful of people have access.
If you’re into AI art, you might want to keep an eye on this one—it could be the next big thing and here is why!
What’s So Special About Mystic?
Mystic is being talked about as a model that could beat the current leader, Midjourney, in terms of photo-realism and Dall-E 3 in terms of precise prompt representation. Early users who got their hands on it are saying that Mystic’s images are on another level. The detail and realism in these images are so good that it’s already unrecognisable from high quality photos.
“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
— Arthur C. Clarke
The first images from Mystic started popping up around August 16, 2024, on X, on the profile of @javilopen. He’s the guy behind Magnific, another well-known AI tool. At first, these images seemed mysterious, but he later confirmed that they were made with a new Image Generative AI code-named Mystic.
First Leaked Images
Martin LeBlank, the PM at Freepik shared another batch of images from Mystic model to show off its capabilities:
Mystic can create hyper-detailed and realistic wallpapers with a specific aesthetic, such as dark indigo and light gray tones, similar to the style of Brandon Woelfel.
The model performs well in generating dynamic, action-packed shots, capturing the intensity and movement of athletic sportswear with professional athletes.
For close-up shots like a mixed berry parfait, Mystic produces high-resolution, magazine-quality images with sharp focus and professional color grading. Each piece of fruit is perfectly rendered.
Mystic can also handle more rugged, realistic scenes, such as a wide-angle shot of a gang leader, capturing vivid details and authenticity.
For more imaginative work, like bioluminescent jellyfish in an underwater cityscape, Mystic delivers with ethereal lighting and a touch of fantasy.
Mystic seems to be an amazing fashion designer as well:
How to test Mystic Model?
The Mystic model is in its Alpha phase and is currently available only to a select group of users, including influencers and industry experts. This limited access allows for focused feedback and refinement. However, it will soon be open for broader testing through Freepik’s Pikaso app, making it accessible to a wider audience.
What’s Next for Mystic?
While we don’t have any official release dates, it looks like Mystic could go public sometime in September 2024 after the Alpha testing phase is over. The excitement is real, and if the early images are anything to go by, Mystic is going to be a game-changer in the world of AI image generation.
Overall, Mystic demonstrates an impressive ability to handle a diverse range of visual styles and applications with ease. However, as with any new technology, there are still several unanswered questions that are piquing curiosity in the creative community.
One of the biggest questions is around the pricing structure. Will Mystic be accessible to a wide range of users, or will it be positioned as a premium tool? Additionally, there’s speculation about the specific parameters and customization options it might offer. For example, how much control will users have over fine-tuning the generated images? Will there be robust editing tools built into the platform, or will users need to rely on external software for post-processing?

Another question that is yet to be answered is whether Mystic will stack up against the upcoming releases of DALL-E 4 and Midjourney 7. Both of these models are expected to introduce new advancements in AI image generation. While Mystic has made a strong first impression, it remains to be seen whether it can maintain its edge as these competitors roll out their latest versions.
As Mystic approaches its public release, these questions loom large. The creative community is watching closely to see how this new tool will fit into the rapidly evolving landscape of AI-generated art and design.
