Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope and successor to the late Pope Francis, has made artificial intelligence (AI) a central concern of his pontificate. In a series of speeches and documents, he warns that AI carries a “shadow of evil,” echoing fears expressed during the Industrial Revolution by his namesake, Pope Leo XIII.
