Imagine building a groundbreaking app with no coding experience, guided only by the prowess of an AI. That's the tale of HelloAI, a macOS chat app born from a daring challenge with GPT-4 that made it to the Mac App Store.

Chapter 1: Taking the Challenge

It was a Friday before easter when I was struck by a crazy idea: Can GPT-4, the breakthrough AI by OpenAI, really help someone like me, with zero coding knowledge, build a fully-functional app? With chatGPT by my side, I decided to take on this seemingly insurmountable challenge.

My vision? Create a simple macOS AI chat app that will be connected to OpenAI API and will offer way better user interface than the chatGPT.

Chapter 2: The Birth of HelloAI

I spent a crazy building weekend. Hundreds of prompts, sending code, copying GPT-4 results. Dialogue after dialogue with GPT-4, tweaking here and there, and the fruit of our collective labor, HelloAI, began to emerge.

On Monday, I sent out the invitation to test the Beta version to a few of my friends and followers on Twitter. The feedback was more than encouraging; it was overwhelmingly affirming. They loved features like the prompt-saving capability, and the simple yet elegant UI that set it apart from its competitors.

Chapter 3: Battling with the Giants

Launching an app on the Mac App Store is no simple feat, especially for an individual navigating the waters for the first time. For luck, this wasn't my first time. As a product manager and a freelance CRO expert, I know the App Store very well. I just never had a chance to go through the app upload process by myself.

App Store is known for its rigorous standards. Each submission is followed by a nerve-wracking wait, often culminating in feedback that required further changes and enhancements. I had to modify HelloAI approx 3x before they let me in. Especially when it comes to the processing of subscriptions and the performance of the app.

After about 2 weeks of messaging with the App Store review team and updating the app according to their feedback, HelloAI made its well-earned debut on the App Store, marking a significant milestone in the journey.

Chapter 4: The Current Magic of HelloAI

Fast forward to today, HelloAI is featured worldwide in the Mac App Store.
