NotebookLM Pricing 2026: Free, Plus, Pro & Ultra Plans Explained

NotebookLM pricing in 2026 spans six SKUs tied to Google AI subscriptions: Standard at $0/month, Plus at $4.99/month via Google AI Plus, Pro at $19.99/month via Google AI Pro, Ultra at $99.99 or $199.99/month via the two Google AI Ultra tiers, Workspace Business Standard at $14/user/month, y NotebookLM Enterprise from roughly $9/license/month. NotebookLM, now called Gemini Notebook, cannot be bought as a standalone product at any price.

This guide breaks down what every NotebookLM tier costs in 2026 after Google’s Gemini 3.5 Flash launch at I/O 2026 and the AI Ultra price reshuffle on May 19. Google has since renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook, though the plans and prices are unchanged. For a full walkthrough of the actual product, see our step-by-step NotebookLM guide or our explainer on what is NotebookLM. We cover daily limits, Audio and Video Overviews, Deep Research caps, the new 20TB and 30TB Ultra plans, plus where Workspace and Enterprise pricing fits in. Most older posts still call the paid plan “NotebookLM Plus = $19.99,” which is now wrong; we lay out the correct mapping below so you don’t overpay.

NotebookLM is not your only option for spoken audio, and our roundup of the best AI podcast generators shows how it stacks up against dedicated podcast tools.

The Key Takeaways

  • NotebookLM Standard is free forever with 100 notebooks, 50 sources per notebook and 50 daily chats. No card, no trial.
  • NotebookLM Plus is bundled with Google AI Plus at $4.99/month and roughly doubles every limit.
  • NotebookLM Pro ships with Google AI Pro at $19.99/month; this is the tier most paid users actually want.
  • NotebookLM Ultra now lives inside two Google AI Ultra tiers: $99.99/month (20TB plan, 2,500 daily chats, 500 sources/notebook) or $199.99/month (30TB plan, 5,000 daily chats, 600 sources/notebook).
  • The student offer is closed. Google’s free 12-month AI Pro deal ended, with the last US redemption on April 30, 2026. Students use the free Standard tier now.

Is NotebookLM Free?

Yes, NotebookLM is free. The Standard tier costs $0/month, works with any Google account, and comes with no trial, no credit card and no time limit. The free plan gives you 100 notebooks, 50 sources per notebook, 50 chat queries per day, 3 Audio Overviews y 3 Video Overviews per day, 10 reports per day, y 10 Deep Research sessions per month. Every core feature, including Audio and Video Overviews, Deep Research and Slide Decks, is available on the free tier. Our dedicated guide to whether NotebookLM is free walks through what those caps mean day to day.

NotebookLM is free because Google bundles it with your Google account to drive adoption of its Gemini models, the same way free Gmail and Google Docs pull people into the wider ecosystem. The free Standard tier is not ad-supported and has no expiry, so you can run it indefinitely without ever entering payment details. You only start paying when you want higher daily limits, never to unlock a feature, because you cannot buy NotebookLM as a standalone product.

The catch with the free version is daily volume, not missing features. You give up the bigger caps that paid plans add, so heavy users who generate Audio Overviews every day or juggle several research projects at once will hit the ceilings. Students can use the free Standard tier with no verification and no discount needed, which now matters more than it used to because Google’s student offer has closed. The table below shows exactly what the free plan includes versus the cheapest paid tier, Plus at $4.99/month.

NotebookLM pricing plans 2026 (Free $0, Plus $4.99, Pro $19.99, Ultra $99.99 or $199.99, Workspace $14, Enterprise ~$9)

Google rebranded NotebookLM in late 2025 into four consumer tiers, each tied to a Google AI subscription. At I/O 2026 on May 19, Google split AI Ultra into a $99.99 entry plan and a $199.99 high-limit plan, which gave NotebookLM Ultra two distinct SKUs. Google then cut AI Plus from $7.99 to $4.99 on June 8, 2026. The tables below are built from the official limits Google publishes in its Gemini Notebook upgrade help doc.

You cannot buy NotebookLM by itself. The product ships as a benefit of one of the four Google AI plans, of a qualifying Google Workspace plan, or of a Google Cloud Enterprise license. For the full Google AI subscription picture across Gemini, Veo and storage, see our full Google AI subscription tier breakdown.

NotebookLM Standard at $0/month (Free tier)

Yes, NotebookLM has a permanently free tier called Standard. Any Google account holder can use it with no trial period, no credit card and no time limit. Other tools do run real free trials; see our AI free trials master list. The free plan gives you up to 100 notebooks, 50 sources per notebook, 50 chat queries per day, 3 Audio Overviews per day, 3 Video Overviews per day, 10 reports per day, y 10 Deep Research sessions per month.

For most students, casual researchers and curious readers, those numbers are enough. A typical literature review with a dozen PDFs fits comfortably inside one notebook, and the daily chat budget covers a full study session. You only outgrow Standard when you start running multiple research projects in parallel, generating Audio Overviews on demand for a podcast workflow, or feeding hundreds of sources into a single brief.

If you want a bigger picture of what the free product actually does in 2026, our recap of every new NotebookLM feature in 2026 walks through the 1M-token context window, Deep Research, Cinematic Video Overviews and Gemini 3 upgrades.

NotebookLM Plus at $4.99/month via Google AI Plus

NotebookLM Plus is the entry paid tier and it ships exclusively through Google AI Plus at $4.99 per month in the US, down from $7.99 after Google cut the price on June 8, 2026. The plan also includes 400 GB of cloud storage across Gmail, Drive and Photos, Veo 3.1 Lite access in Flow, and family sharing for up to five people.

Inside NotebookLM, Plus roughly doubles every limit over Standard: 200 notebooks, 100 sources per notebook, 200 daily chats, 6 Audio Overviews and 6 Video Overviews per day, 20 reports per day, y 3 Deep Research reports per day (up from 10 per month on the free tier). It also adds notebook sharing and collaboration features that the free tier keeps in read-only mode.

Plus is the cheapest tier that removes those frictions. Take it if you generate Audio Overviews more than three times a week, run more than one active research project, or want to share a notebook with a study partner. At under $5 a month, it is also the lowest-friction upgrade path Google offers across its AI portfolio.

NotebookLM Pro at $19.99/month via Google AI Pro

NotebookLM Pro is the tier most paid power users actually want. It ships inside Google AI Pro at $19.99 per month. The plan also includes the latest Gemini 3 model family with a 1M-token context window, 5 TB of cloud storage, full Veo 3.1 access in Flow, $10 of monthly Google Cloud credits, and the Google Home Premium Standard plan at no extra cost.

For NotebookLM specifically, Pro raises the ceiling to 500 notebooks, 300 sources per notebook, 500 daily chat queries, 20 Audio Overviews and 20 Video Overviews per day, 100 reports per day, y 20 Deep Research reports per day. That last number is the real differentiator: at one Deep Research run every couple of hours, Pro is the first tier that lets you treat NotebookLM as an always-on agentic researcher rather than a budgeted tool.

NotebookLM upgraded to Gemini 3 in December 2025, replacing the older Gemini 2.5 Flash backbone. From June 8, 2026 it began moving to Gemini 3.5 paired with Antigravity, Google’s coding tool, reaching Google AI Ultra and Workspace AI Ultra customers first and rolling out to AI Pro on the web after the July rename. Google does not name a model version in its own documentation, which only promises “access to Gemini models”, so what the free Standard tier runs at any moment is not published.

NotebookLM Ultra at $99.99 or $199.99/month via Google AI Ultra

NotebookLM Ultra is the highest-cap tier and at I/O 2026 it split into two SKUs inside Google AI Ultra. The entry Ultra plan runs $99.99 per month with 20 TB of cloud storage and 5x higher usage limits than AI Pro across the Gemini app and Google Antigravity. The top tier runs $199.99 per month with 20x higher Gemini-app limits and access to Project Genie. The Gemini Spark 24/7 agent is no longer an Ultra exclusive; since July 23, 2026 it ships on Google AI Pro at $19.99/month and on both Ultra tiers, though it stays unavailable in the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and Nigeria. Google labels the NotebookLM benefit on the higher subscription its 30TB Plan, distinct from the entry tier’s 20TB Plan.

For NotebookLM itself, the 20TB Ultra plan delivers 500 sources per notebook, 2,500 daily chats, 100 Audio Overviews and 100 Video Overviews per day (with 2 Cinematic Video Overviews per day), 500 reports per day, y 75 Deep Research reports per day. The 30TB Ultra plan pushes those caps to 600 sources per notebook, 5,000 daily chats, 200 Audio Overviews and 200 Video Overviews per day (with 10 Cinematic Video Overviews per day), 1,000 reports per day, y 200 Deep Research reports per day. Both Ultra tiers are the only NotebookLM plans that remove watermarks from generated Slide Decks and Infographics.

Outside NotebookLM, both Ultra tiers include the full Gemini 3 model family, YouTube Premium, and priority access to the Google Antigravity development platform. The $199.99 plan layers on Project Genie, and Gemini Spark now reaches every paid tier from AI Pro upward. If you are generating polished AI media at volume or need an unwatermarked PowerPoint export pipeline, the 20TB plan is the entry point. The 30TB plan exists for the power users who would have paid the old $249.99 fee anyway.

NotebookLM via Google Workspace (Business Standard at $14/user/month)

NotebookLM is also bundled into qualifying Google Workspace plans, which is the cleanest path for small teams that already pay for Workspace. NotebookLM Plus became a Workspace core service in February 2025, which means it is available at no extra cost to organizations on Business Standard ($14/user/month), Business Plus, and Enterprise tiers.

The Workspace path comes with two real advantages over individual Google AI subscriptions. First, your data is covered by Workspace’s enterprise-grade data protection terms, so prompts and uploads are not used to train Google models. Second, sharing notebooks across your domain works without anyone juggling personal Google accounts. The trade-off is that the per-seat math only beats the consumer plan once you have several active users on the same Workspace.

NotebookLM Enterprise at roughly $9/license/month

For larger organizations, NotebookLM Enterprise is sold separately through Google Cloud. Pricing starts at roughly $9 per license per month with a 15-license minimum, and discounts are available on annual commitments. This is the only path that adds enterprise security controls like VPC Service Controls, IAM access management and audit logging on top of the standard NotebookLM feature set.

Enterprise also adds shared organizational notebooks, custom expert guides, and the ability to tune notebook responses for tone and length. For most teams under 50 people, the Workspace bundle is the easier, cheaper option.

NotebookLM student pricing: the offer has ended

There is no student discount on NotebookLM any more, and this is the single most out-of-date claim still circulating about it. Google ran a genuinely generous promotion that gave eligible students 12 months of Google AI Pro at no charge, not at a reduced rate. It has closed. Google’s own students page now states that the previous student offer ended and is no longer available, and the offer terms put the final US redemption deadline at April 30, 2026, with most other regions closing between October 2025 and March 2026.

Watch out for the $9.99/month student rate you will still see quoted on plenty of sites, including, until this update, ours. No Google document has ever described the student offer as half price; the deal was free for a year, and the $9.99 figure appears to be a misreading that spread. Verification did run through SheerID with a .edu address while the offer was open, but there is nothing left to verify for.

What students can still do costs nothing. The free Standard tier needs no verification, no .edu address and no card, and it carries every NotebookLM feature at lower daily caps, which covers most coursework comfortably. Anyone who redeemed the old offer before it closed keeps it until their 12 months run out. We track the full picture, including what replaced it, in our guide to Google AI Pro for students, and our roundup of the top student-friendly AI tools covers what else is worth pairing with NotebookLM.

Which NotebookLM Plan Should You Pick?

The right tier comes down to how often you hit the free plan’s daily ceilings. If you only spin up NotebookLM for the occasional project, Standard is enough and most readers will never need to upgrade. The 50-source-per-notebook limit fits a typical syllabus or a normal research brief, and 50 daily chats covers a long working session before you start to feel the cap.

Google AI Pro at $19.99/month is the sweet spot if you live inside NotebookLM weekly, generate Audio or Video Overviews on a content schedule, or want Deep Research running daily rather than a few times a month. It includes NotebookLM Pro plus the latest Gemini 3 model family and is the first tier where the daily Deep Research budget feels generous instead of rationed. Google AI Plus at $4.99/month only makes sense if you specifically need higher caps but not the flagship Gemini model. Google AI Ultra at $99.99/month is now a realistic step-up for heavy users who want watermark-free slide decks and 75 Deep Research runs a day without committing to the $199.99 30TB tier. The $199.99 Ultra plan is overkill unless you are producing Cinematic Video Overviews at scale or chewing through several thousand chats a day. Gemini Spark is no longer a reason to pick it, because AI Pro at $19.99/month now includes the agent.

NotebookLM Pricing vs ChatGPT, Claude and Other AI Subscriptions

For the same $19.99 price point, ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro give you a general-purpose chatbot with web browsing, image generation and code tools. NotebookLM Pro is narrower. It is laser-focused on grounding answers in the documents and sources you upload, which is exactly what you want for academic, legal and research workflows but is overkill for casual chat. At the new $99.99 entry Ultra tier, NotebookLM now sits in the same price band as ChatGPT Pro and Claude Max, so the choice becomes “do you want grounded research workflows or general-purpose reasoning at the top end.”

Most active AI users end up paying for two or three of these tools at once, which is how a “$20 a month AI bill” quietly turns into $60 or more. The Fello AI app routes between Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek for $9.99/month, one way to keep your stack flat. You still want NotebookLM for grounded research on your own files, but Fello AI can absorb the chat, coding and brainstorming work, and it can even turn your notes or PDFs into a spoken podcast, much like an Audio Overview. For the full cross-vendor comparison, see our AI pricing comparison guide.

Conclusión

For 2026, the NotebookLM pricing math is simple. Start free on the Standard tier. Jump to Google AI Pro at $19.99/month when you outgrow the daily caps. Step up to the $99.99/month Ultra 20TB plan if you need watermark-free outputs and bigger Deep Research budgets. Reach for the $199.99/month Ultra 30TB plan only if you need Cinematic Video Overviews at scale or the highest daily caps. Workspace teams get NotebookLM Plus included from Business Standard upward, and Enterprise customers buy through Google Cloud at around $9 per license. The cheapest meaningful upgrade is the $4.99/month AI Plus tier, but most paying users will land on Pro.

If you are a student, the free Standard tier is now the move. Google’s 12-month AI Pro student offer closed in April 2026 and no discounted student rate replaced it, so treat any site still quoting one as out of date.

FAQ

Is NotebookLM free to use?

Yes. NotebookLM Standard is free for any Google account holder with no trial and no time limit. You get 100 notebooks, 50 sources per notebook, 50 daily chats, 3 Audio Overviews and 3 Video Overviews per day, 10 reports per day and 10 Deep Research sessions per month.

Is Gemini Notebook the same as NotebookLM?

Yes. Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook on July 16, 2026. Nothing about pricing changed with the rename: the same tiers, the same limits and the same free Standard plan, under a new name and logo.

How much does NotebookLM Plus cost per month?

NotebookLM Plus costs $4.99/month in the US, bundled inside Google AI Plus, after Google cut the price from $7.99 on June 8, 2026. It cannot be bought on its own. The same plan includes 400 GB of cloud storage, Veo 3.1 Lite access and family sharing for up to five people.

What is the difference between NotebookLM Pro and Ultra?

Pro ($19.99/month via Google AI Pro) gives you 500 notebooks, 300 sources each, 500 daily chats and 20 Deep Research reports per day. Ultra comes in two tiers: the $99.99 20TB plan raises that to 500 sources, 2,500 daily chats and 75 Deep Research per day, and the $199.99 30TB plan goes to 600 sources, 5,000 daily chats and 200 Deep Research per day.

What is the difference between the $99.99 and $199.99 AI Ultra plans?

The $99.99 plan ships with 20 TB of storage and 5x higher Gemini-app limits than AI Pro. The $199.99 plan gives 20x higher limits, adds Project Genie, and allows 10 Cinematic Video Overviews a day against 2 on the cheaper tier. The Gemini Spark agent is on both, and on AI Pro at $19.99/month as well.

Is there a student discount for NotebookLM?

Not any more. Google’s student promotion gave 12 months of AI Pro free, not at a discount, and it has closed, with the last US redemption on April 30, 2026. The widely quoted $9.99/month student rate has no basis in any Google document. Students should use the free Standard tier, which needs no verification.

Is NotebookLM included in Google Workspace?

Yes. NotebookLM Plus is a core service in Google Workspace from Business Standard ($14/user/month) upward. Larger organizations can buy NotebookLM Enterprise through Google Cloud at around $9 per license per month with a 15-license minimum.
