Claude Cowork pricing comes down to one fact. Cowork has no price of its own. There is no Cowork subscription, no per-seat add-on and no usage pack behind a paywall. Cowork comes with every paid Claude plan, so you pay for the plan you are on. That runs from $20 a month on Pro to $200 a month on Ultra, the plan that replaced Max 20x on October 30, 2026.

So the real question is which Claude plan to be on. Below we cover every price Anthropic publishes, what each plan buys you in usage, the two ways Cowork can still add to your bill, and how to pick a plan without paying for capacity you never touch. All prices were checked on Anthropic’s pages in November 2026.

The Key Takeaways

  • Cowork has no price of its own. It is included on Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise, and not on the free plan
  • Claude Pro is $20/month, or $17/month if you pay $200 up front for the year
  • Claude Max is $100/month for 5x Pro usage, and Claude Ultra is $200/month for 10x Pro’s weekly usage with no 5-hour limit on verified accounts
  • Team seats are $25 (Standard, 1.25x Pro) or $125 (Premium, 6.25x Pro) a month, less when billed annually
  • Cowork tasks use your allowance faster than chat, and the monthly API credits on Max, Ultra and Team do not pay for Cowork

Claude Cowork costs nothing on its own. If you pay for Claude, you already have Cowork.

Anthropic sells Cowork as part of the Claude subscription, not as a product with its own line item, so your Cowork bill is your Claude bill. Every figure below comes from Anthropic’s published plan pricing and its help centre.

The cheapest way in is Claude Pro at $20 per month. The most expensive individual plan is Claude Ultra at $200 per month. Everything between those two numbers buys usage, not features, because Cowork itself works the same on every paid plan.

PlanMonthlyAnnualCoworkUsage vs Pro
Free$0$0Not includedBelow Pro
Pro$20$17/mo ($200 up front)IncludedBaseline
Max$100Monthly onlyIncluded5x every 5 hours and every week
Ultra$200Monthly onlyIncluded10x every week, no 5-hour limit (verified accounts)
Team Standard$25/seat$20/seatIncluded1.25x per session
Team Premium$125/seat$100/seatIncluded6.25x per session
EnterpriseAnnual only$20/seat + usage at API ratesIncludedNo seat allowance, billed on use

Every multiplier is measured against Pro, not against the free plan. Ultra’s 10x is ten times what a Pro subscriber gets in a week, and a Team Premium seat’s 6.25x is the same thing as Anthropic’s other description of it, five times a Standard seat.

Cowork is becoming just Claude

The name is going away, but the price is not changing. Anthropic’s product page now says “Claude Cowork is now just Claude”, and its help centre describes a new Claude experience that merges chat and Cowork into one conversation. It is rolling out to Pro, Max and Ultra first. Team (in beta) and Enterprise get it only where an admin turns it on, and keep Cowork as a separate mode until then.

If your message box still shows separate “Chat” and “Cowork” options, you do not have the new experience yet. Either way, everything on this page still applies: the work Cowork did is now part of your Claude plan, and it draws on the same usage limits.

Claude Cowork Pricing Plans and Tiers Explained

Every paid plan includes the same Cowork. What changes as you move up is how long you can keep it running before you hit a limit. Here is what each plan is for. Full plan detail sits in our Claude pricing guide.

Claude Pro, $20 per month

Claude Pro is the entry point for Cowork, priced at $20 per month in the US, with local currency pricing where Anthropic supports it. Annual billing drops the effective rate to $17 per month, charged as $200 billed up front. Pro is the only individual plan with an annual option.

Pro has a limit that resets every five hours and a weekly limit on top. Cowork works fully on Pro, but multi-step tasks use your allowance faster than chat, so the ceiling comes sooner than you would expect. One or two longer tasks a day fit comfortably. Make Cowork your main way of working and you will hit the limit most weeks. Pro also does not include Fable, Anthropic’s top model, in its allowance: you pay for Fable with usage credits.

Claude Max, $100 per month

Claude Max costs $100 per month and gives you five times Pro’s usage, every five hours and every week. Until October 30, 2026 this plan was called Max 5x, and Anthropic’s Max plan documentation still lists it at the same price. It is the plan most people land on once Cowork stops being an experiment and becomes part of the working day.

Max also includes Fable for up to half of your weekly limit, priority access at busy times, and $100 a month in API credits for building on the Claude Platform. Those credits are for your own apps and agents. They do not cover Cowork, chat or interactive Claude Code, so they do not stretch your Cowork allowance. Max is billed monthly only.

Claude Ultra, $200 per month

Claude Ultra costs $200 per month and is the plan that used to be called Max 20x. Anthropic’s Ultra plan documentation says existing Max 20x subscribers moved over automatically with no price change. Ultra gives you 10x Pro’s usage every week and, on verified accounts, no 5-hour limit at all. It also comes with $200 a month in API credits, with the same rule that they do not pay for Cowork.

The two numbers are worth reading carefully. Max 20x was sold as twenty times Pro’s usage per session. Ultra is described as ten times Pro’s usage per week, with the session limit gone. Anthropic has not published a side-by-side of the old and new allowances, so treat Ultra as “twice Max per week, with no session cap” rather than as a direct swap. Ultra is for people who run long, unattended tasks back to back. If the 5-hour limit on Max is not what stops you, the extra $100 buys headroom you will not reach.

Anthropic verifies Ultra accounts automatically using factors like account and payment history. Until that happens a temporary limit applies. You can check in Settings > Usage: if there is no “Current session” bar, your account is verified.

Claude Team, $20 to $125 per seat

Claude Team is for 2 to 150 people and splits into two seat types. Standard seats are $25 per member per month billed monthly, or $20 billed annually, and carry 1.25x Pro’s per-session usage. Premium seats are $125 monthly or $100 annually, at 6.25x Pro. You can mix both types in one team.

A Standard seat is barely more Cowork capacity than a Pro subscription. If your team plans to lean on Cowork, compare Premium seats against Max, not Standard. Team plans also get pooled API credits, $20 per Standard seat and $100 per Premium seat, capped at $500 a month, and again they do not cover Cowork. Cowork is on by default for Team, and an owner can switch it off for the whole organisation.

Claude Enterprise, seat fee plus usage

Claude Enterprise works on a different model. The seat is $20 per user per month, billed annually, with a 20-seat minimum. In Anthropic’s billing documentation, the seat “gives each person access to Claude on web, desktop, and mobile, plus Claude Code and Cowork, but doesn't include any usage”. Every token your team spends in chat, Claude Code or Cowork is billed on top at standard API rates.

In exchange, usage-based Enterprise plans have no fixed usage limits per seat. Owners control cost with spend limits for the organisation, for groups and for individual users. Older Enterprise contracts with Standard and Premium seats move to this model at their next renewal.

Does Claude Cowork Cost Extra on Top of Your Plan?

No. There is no add-on fee, no Cowork tier and no separate meter running next to your subscription.

On Pro, Max, Ultra and Team, Cowork is covered by the plan you already pay for.

Cowork is not free in terms of capacity, though. Your activity in Claude on the web, on desktop, on mobile and in Claude Code all draws from one shared allowance. Cowork tasks pull from that same pool, and they pull harder than chat. In Anthropic’s words, longer tasks “that search the web, run code, or create files generally use more than a quick question”.

Enterprise is the one real exception. Because its seat fee buys access rather than usage, every Cowork task on Enterprise adds to the bill at API rates. If you are comparing Anthropic against other vendors on total cost, our AI pricing comparison puts these ladders side by side.

What happens when you run out

Hitting your limit does not have to stop you. Usage credits on Pro, Max and Ultra let you keep working past your allowance at standard API rates. They are opt-in: you enable them in Settings > Usage, pre-fund a balance, and can set a monthly spend cap. Nothing gets charged until you switch them on. Team and seat-based Enterprise plans have their own version, covering Claude, Cowork and Claude Code.

If you go over regularly, buy credits in bundles. Anthropic sells $50 of usage for $45, $250 for $200 and $1,000 for $700, up to $2,000 of discounted bundles a month on Pro, Max and Ultra. Usage credits are the only way a Cowork task can cost you more than your subscription on these plans, and you have to turn them on yourself.

Claude Cowork Pricing and Availability by Plan

Every paid plan now gets Cowork on every device, with two exceptions for organisations. The free plan gets none of it: Anthropic’s plan table marks “Hand off and schedule tasks” as not included. If the free plan is where you are starting, we go deeper on whether Cowork has a free tier and what the free Claude plan gives you.

Claude Desktop for macOS, Windows and Linux (beta) runs Cowork on all paid plans. Cowork on web and mobile is available on Pro, Max and Ultra, in beta on Team, and on Enterprise only when an owner enables it. Since October 6, 2026, new Cowork tasks on Pro, Max and Ultra run in Anthropic’s cloud, so they keep going after you close your laptop. Tasks that use files or apps on your computer still need Claude Desktop open.

On Team and Enterprise, Cowork is on by default and an owner can disable it for the whole organisation. Organisations with HIPAA enabled start with it off. On Enterprise, running Cowork in the cloud is also off until an owner turns it on. For the full feature picture, see our complete Claude Cowork guide.

What Actually Burns Through Your Usage

Every plan gives you the same Cowork, so the only thing your money buys is runway.

Knowing what uses that runway is the difference between a $20 plan that works and a $200 plan you still manage to exhaust. Anthropic lists the factors: message and file size, conversation length, tools like web search and Research, the model you pick, the effort level, and multi-step tasks such as running code, creating files or browsing websites. Each step Claude takes uses tokens.

One lever you control directly is the model. On Max and Ultra, Fable has its own weekly limit of up to half your allowance, and on Pro it is paid with usage credits. Lowering the effort level for routine tasks and turning off connected apps a task does not need also cut usage, because tools and connectors are token-heavy.

Anthropic’s Cowork guidance adds three habits. Group related work into one task instead of several. Start a new conversation for unrelated work, so Claude is not carrying extra context. And tell Claude when you only need a quick answer rather than a file. Cowork’s cost follows task complexity more than message count. If you are also weighing the terminal-based option, our Claude Code pricing breakdown covers that side.

Which Claude Plan Should You Pick for Cowork?

Start on Pro at $20 unless you already know you are a heavy user. Cowork works fully there, and a month of real use tells you more about your consumption than any estimate. Pro is also the only individual plan with an annual rate, so there is no early-commitment saving further up.

Move to Max at $100 when you hit limits more than once a week. Move to Ultra at $200 only when Max’s weekly limit, or its 5-hour limit, is what keeps stopping you, because the jump buys capacity, not capability. If you only go over Max now and then, a discounted usage bundle costs less than another $100 a month. For teams, compare Premium seats at $100 against Max rather than assuming Standard seats are the equivalent, since a Standard seat carries only 1.25x Pro’s usage.

The caps behind each plan are set out in our guide to Claude usage limits. Anthropic’s summer Cowork promotion, which doubled the five-hour Cowork limit, ended on August 19, 2026, so any usage you measured before then flatters your real consumption.

Is Claude Cowork Pricing Worth It?

If Cowork is your main way of working, the maths is simple, because $20 to $200 a month is cheap against the hours a working agent saves. The catch is that this pricing ties you to one vendor’s ladder, and you climb it for capacity, not for better output.

That is the trade to think about before you upgrade. Paying $200 for Ultra gets you more of the same models, not access to anything you could not already do at $20. We have also rounded up the best Claude Cowork alternatives for everyday work.

If you mostly want the models, not the agent

Plenty of people upgrade their Claude plan when what they really want is a second opinion from ChatGPT or Gemini, and end up paying two subscriptions. Fello AI removes the second bill: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek in one native Mac, iPhone and iPad app, so you can ask several models and compare the answers in one window. It can also search the web, chat with a PDF, and turn the result into a Word document, an Excel sheet or a PowerPoint deck.

Fello AI starts from $11.99 a month in most countries (prices checked October 2026) and has a free tier. It is not an agent that runs tasks while your laptop is closed, so it does not replace Cowork for that. It replaces the second chat subscription.

The Bottom Line

Claude Cowork pricing is simpler than the search results suggest, and the move to “just Claude” makes it simpler still.

There is one number to know, the price of your Claude plan, and one behaviour to watch, how fast long tasks drain a usage pool that chat barely touches. Get the second one wrong and the first stops mattering, because you will be upgrading to buy back headroom you were burning unnecessarily.

Start at Pro for $20, run Cowork properly for a month, keep Fable and high effort for the tasks that need them, and let your own limit warnings tell you whether $100 is justified. That is a far more reliable signal than any pricing table, including this one. On a Mac, our Claude desktop client guide for macOS covers the install that local files and browser tasks need.

FAQ

How much does Claude Cowork cost per month?

Cowork has no separate price, so it costs whatever your Claude plan costs. That is $20/month on Pro, $100/month on Max, $200/month on Ultra, from $20 per seat on Team, or $20 per seat plus usage on Enterprise.

Is Claude Cowork included in Claude Pro?

Yes. Cowork is included on Pro at no extra charge, along with Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise. Multi-step Cowork tasks use Pro’s usage limits faster than ordinary chat does.

Is Claude Cowork free?

No. Cowork is available only on paid plans, and Anthropic’s plan table marks handing off and scheduling tasks as not included on the free plan. The lowest-cost route to Cowork is a Pro subscription.

What happened to Claude Max 20x?

Anthropic renamed it Ultra on October 30, 2026. It still costs $200 a month, and existing subscribers moved over with no price change. Ultra is described as 10x Pro’s weekly usage with no 5-hour limit on verified accounts. The old Max 5x is now simply Max at $100.

Do you need Max to use Claude Cowork?

No. Pro is enough to use Cowork on desktop, web and mobile. Max and Ultra matter only for more usage, Fable inside your allowance, and priority access at busy times.

What happens if you run out of Cowork usage?

You can wait for your limit to reset, move to a higher plan, or enable usage credits, which let Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers continue at standard API rates. Credits are opt-in and pre-funded, so you are not charged unless you switch them on. The monthly API credits on Max and Ultra do not count here.
